The weather bureau has warned of severe thunderstorms with very heavy rain and possible flash flooding accompanied by damaging winds on Saturday in NSW.

The storms will occur in an area stretching from Port Macquarie and Tamworth over Newcastle and Sydney as far south as Nowra in the south and Orange in the west.

Four people were rescued in the Blue Mountains on Friday night following a landslide as the area was lashed by thunderstorms.

Police and rescue officials say the landslide near Katoomba occurred at the Giant Stairs, Echo Point, after a storm in the region, trapping two men and two women who had been struck by falling debris.

One of the men was also struck by lightning and officials say the rescue operation was hampered by bad weather.

The four were eventually carried out on stretchers after harsh weather prevented a rescue helicopter from reaching the site.

The man with burns from the lightning strike has been taken to Concord hospital, while one of the women has been taken to Liverpool Hospital, the other two people are at Katoomba Hospital.

Abby.

I'm more worried about my poor dog Taz.
The lightning triggers seizures.
(he's epileptic)

Try sedation, I suppose. My mom had to dope my brother's dog because of its reaction to bad weather; it jumped all over her. Finally, I demanded my brother watch his own pet.

Abby.

Sedation does not work for epilepsy.
Thanks for trying to help, though.
*hugs*

Keep Taz as well - protected as you can. Have you asked a vet about what to do during thunderstorms (or check it out yourself online). Our previous dog, Goldie, was not epileptic, but was susceptible to unidentified seizures. The last one, and the only one that occurred during a thunderstorm, led to a stroke and death within an hour of it happening. She was only 7 years old. I don't want to scare you, but if my dog had seizures, I would probably take whatever extra precautions I can, if there are any. There were so many thunderstorms Goldie lived through in her life, without so much as a seizure - there was something weird that night - I will never know what! Btw, I am not superstitious!

Since I'm not that familiar with Australia, what does NSW stand for? I'm sorry to hear that it makes your dog flip out. I had one like that and I had to give her Acepromazine when we'd have bad storms or around our Fourth of July.

Stay indoors, pull the drapes and turn up the stereo - maybe your Taz won't notice?

Same here. Last year and the year before we had record breaking snow falls. They are predicting maybe an inch or so this afternoon, but I would be surprised if we get any at all.

From what I hear from the ladies in this house, boots are in style. Any kind of boot will do.

And remember, it is better to look good then be comfortable
